About the NDIS: Empowering Australians with Disabilities

At Alpha Family Assist, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to live a fulfilling and independent life. The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a vital program that empowers Australians with a permanent disability to achieve this goal. This comprehensive guide provides a detailed explanation of the NDIS, its eligibility criteria, the types of support offered, and how Alpha Family Assist can assist you on your NDIS journey. What is the NDIS? The NDIS is a national scheme that provides funding and support to Australians with a permanent disability aged under 65. It aims to empower individuals to maximize their potential and participate in social and economic activities. The NDIS operates across all of Australia, having been rolled out in Victoria since July 2016 https://www.ndis.gov.au/understanding/ndis-each-state/victoria.

NDIS has been rolled out across Victoria since July 2016 and it covers all Australia https://www.ndis.gov.au/about-us/our-sites/VIC
  • All Australian Citizens and residents – permanent & some types of visas
  • When NDIS roll out to your local area
  • People deemed living with a permanent disability
  • Being under 65 year old
  • Children with a Developmental Delay such as Autism, Behavior disorders, Cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, Intellectual disability, Spina Bifida and other disabilities
While this is something each person must do individually, we can help to explain the process and the documentation that needs to be submitted to NDIA.
Also Alpha Family can assist when you become eligible to prepare for your NDIS planning through a free 1 on 1 or pre-planning session or a group workshop
Yes, we can- we have access to bi-lingual staff as well as to interpretation and translation services
All Australian people are eligible to be covered by the safety network (insurance) provided the NDIS when they acquire a permanent disability; thus the name National Disability Insurance Scheme – NDIS.
The NDIS supports are funded through the ‘Reasonable and Necessary’ principle (see next question).
By ‘reasonable and necessary’ supports, the NDIS requires that the supports to be related to their disability, to meet the person’s needs and to be likely assisting with achieving their goals. Also reasonable and necessary supports should not include day-to-day living costs and must not be double-dipping supports being supported by other mainstream services (department or government system). Also NDIS will not provide supports, which should be (more reasonably) provided by a family or available through a community service.
